Pedestrian sent to hospital after hit-and-run in St. Catharines
Niagara Regional Police says a pedestrian has been taken to hospital following a hit-and-run in St. Catharines Wednesday night.
Officers responded to reports of a hit in the area of Church Street between Calvin and Queenston Streets just before 6:30 p.m.
Emergency crews say they found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries and transported him by helicopter to an out-of-region hospital. He is reportedly to be in stable condition.
Investigators say the driver did not remain at the scene after the hit.
Police are describing the vehicle that hit the man as a 2008 or newer, dark-coloured Dodge or Chrysler van with roof rails.
They say the vehicle will have front-end damage and likely missing a silver-coloured, Dodge brand plastic hub cap that was found near the scene of the collision.
Portions of Church Street had been closed as part of the investigation, but officers re-opened the street at around 2 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
