Ontario Provincial Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was struck and killed while walking on the QEW in Hamilton early Sunday morning.
Police say the man was hit after midnight in the Stoney Creek area in the direction of Fort Erie, approaching Fruitland Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
OPP say the vehicle that struck the man initially stopped, and that he may have been hit by other vehicles that did not remain on the scene.
One of the vehicles that may have hit the pedestrian — but did not remain at the scene — is believed to be a Honda, based on debris found in the area of the collision.
Police say it would have sustained damage to the front driver’s side and the driver may have not known what he or she hit.
The OPP are appealing to the driver of this vehicle, and other individuals in the area at the time of the collision, to come forward.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. Police say the man is believed to be new to the area and that foul play is not suspected.
Witnesses are asked to call the Burlington OPP at 905-681-2511 or 1-888-310-1122. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous can contact Ontario Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
