The new Ontario government has put a halt on an anti-scalping law that would have capped prices ticket scalpers can charge fans going to concerts and sporting events.

Premier Doug Ford’s office confirmed his government is suspending the portion of the law that was introduced by the Liberals, that would have outlawed the resale of tickets at markups of more than 50% above face value. It was suppose to take effect July 1st.

Ford spokesperson Simon Jeffries said in a statement that “the previous government attempted to institute a cap on ticket re-sales with no way to enforce that cap, resulting in less consumer protection.”
