Fire in Glanbrook leaves family homeless

A Glanbrook family is in disbelief after their home was destroyed by fire for a second time.

While the family of three was able to escape from the fire unscathed, all of their belongings went up in flames along with one of their pet cats.

Only the charred shell of this newly rebuilt two story home remains.

Joseph Mazuera says his wife’s screams woke him to the realization that his home was once again going up in flames.

By the time firefighters arrived to the home on Blackburn Lane at 11:30 on Saturday evening, there was little left to salvage.

The family of three was able to escape uninjured, but one of their family cats did not.

It was only four months earlier that the family was able to move back into the home.

The first time their house caught fire was three years ago, and although the damage was significantly less than Saturday’s fire, it took over a year of rebuilding before the family was able to live inside again.

This time, he suspects Canada Day fireworks are to blame for what caused over $800,000 in damages. Although it hasn’t been confirmed by authorities.

Ultimately, Mazuera says he’s most grateful for what he has left.

As the family searches for a temporary place to live, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help get them back on their feet.
