TORONTO — A woman was shot and killed on a street in northwest Toronto in what police believe was a “targeted incident.”

The shooting took place Friday morning in the area of Humberwood and Rexdale boulevards.

Staff Sgt. Scott Bradbury said officers received reports of an injured woman around 7:20 a.m. and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have not yet been notified, so further details are not being released, Bradbury said.

Police said a man was seen fleeing the area but no suspect description has been released.

Investigators believe there is no threat to the wider neighbourhood. “Right now we feel that this area is safe,” Bradbury said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
