Updated Parents woke up this morning to confusion as a planned one day walkout by elementary school teachers was called off.
At four o’clock this morning, the Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled that the planned walkout would be illegal.
Premier Dalton McGuinty says the decision provides “absolute clarity,” and now secondary school teachers have called off their own walkout which was set for next Wednesday.
Earlier CHCH News spoke to education minister Laurel Broten who admits this has been a difficult time for parents, teachers and students, but says the dispute between teachers and the province is now in the hands of the courts.
“We respect and acknowledge that teachers want to raise issues in respect to bill 115, but they should do that in the courtroom, not in the classroom.”
The Progressive Conservatives are blaming McGuinty for the confusion this morning. Education critic Lisa MacLeod says the Liberals should have gotten tough with the teachers months ago.
