A 20- year old Mississauga man has been charged with second degree murder in the death of his mother. This is the latest tragedy in the last month across the GTHA with children being charged in the deaths of their parents.
Phil Perkins went to the home where Peel region’s 13th homicide took place and attempted to speak with the neighbours. No one was willing to comment on the incident or the family but it was clear the news has everyone a little shook up.
Just before 6 o’clock Saturday night, Peel police arrived at a home on Southfork Drive in Mississauga in response to a domestic disturbance. Inside they found 41-year old Vaisali Patel with critical injuries. She died in a nearby hospital this morning.
Her son Kunal Bhavan has been charged with second degree murder and appeared in a Brampton courtroom earlier today.
Neighbours say Bhavan lived with his mother, father and younger sister. They don’t recall any incident’s leading up to last night’s murder.
Unfortunately this isn’t the first time in the last month, let alone this year that a son is suspected of killing his parent.
Less than 2 weeks ago, 32-year old Wesley Nagel Jr. was arrested at a rooming house on Guelph Line in Burlington after officials found his father Wesley Nagel Sr. with stab wounds. The 62-year old later died in hospital. Nagel Jr. lived with his father and appeared in court last Friday and is facing second degree murder charges.
On September 21st in Oakville, 62-year old Judy Wilson, a retired city-worker died in her home following a dispute with her son Ryan Porte. The 39-year old lived with his mother and is in custody while he faces second degree murder charges.
Police involved with previous 2 murders identified that there had been some history of tension between the victim’s and their son’s. At this point, peel police haven’t commented on what lead up to last night’s death.
