An Ontario restaurant has been fined more than $37,000 after refusing to pay wages owed to 15 former employees.
According to the Canadian Press, Marj’s Village Kitchen, near Kitchener, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of failing to comply under the Employment Standards Act after being told by the courts to pay.
The employees were owed amounts ranging from $300 to $6,000.
In a statement given to CTV Kitchener in January 2015, the restaurant announced it’s closure citing economic times and “a serious cash flow problem resulting from this last incident.” The incident refers to a public health scare after a staff member responsible for preparing salads for patrons was confirmed to have Hepatitis A.
