Ontario Premier Doug Ford appeared on CNN Tuesday night discussing potential retaliation against new proposed tariffs on Canadian products.

Ford spoke with CNN host Erin Burnett about President Elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats and the premier’s threat to retaliate.

This is the latest interview in Ford’s series of appearances on American media outlets this month, including Fox News and CNBC.

“We ship 4.3 million barrels of oil every single day, if there was a tariff on that, that would increase gas by a dollar a gallon,” said the Premier. “That wouldn’t go over very well and you know both sides of the border are going to feel the pain.”

CHCH News confirmed that he will give an interview to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal in the coming days.

In a statement, the premier’s office says Ford hopes to stress the deep economic ties between the two countries, and how a proposed 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian imports would impact American workers and families as well.

Earlier this month the Ontario government launched a national U.S. advertising campaign to highlight its supply of critical minerals and clean energy ahead of Trump’s inauguration.

The campaign has been set to roll out during FOX News primetime, NFL games and at Washington airports over the holidays.
