Ontario lacks initiatives for small long-term care home development: report

A new report suggests Ontario is the only Canadian province with no current initiatives identified to support the development of small long-term care homes.
The National Institute on Ageing is calling on all levels of government to adopt a long-term care model that offers seniors a more home-like environment.
The small care home model typically limits households to just 10 to 12 residents, with each household staffed by its own small team of front-line health workers.
The province’s ministry of long-term care says it provides flexibility to operators to propose smaller scale projects and says there’s no minimum bed requirement for a new or redeveloped long-term care home in Ontario.
