Ontario financial regulator warns of fraudulent insurance company

Ontario’s financial services regulator (FSRA) is warning consumers of a fraudulent insurance company operating in Ontario.

The FSRA says Hero Life Insurance is not licensed to operate in the province.

“We urge consumers not to obtain insurance products from or those that have been arranged through Hero Life Insurance,” the FSRA said in a statement.

“Consumers are not protected under the Insurance Act if they purchase insurance from unlicensed individuals or companies.”

Hero Life Insurance is allegedly selling life and health insurance by contacting customers over the phone and by email.

The regulatory board says “sales representatives” at Hero Life Insurance pose as licensed insurance agents and pressure customers to give out their personal and confidential information.

The fraudulent company appears to be using the following contact information:

Phone: 1-844-790-1253
Address: 2235 Sheppard Ave. E., Suite 1200, Toronto, Ont.
Website: https://www.herolifeinsurance.ca

The FSRA also noted that Hero Life Insurance is not the same as InsuranceHero.ca, another licensed independent brokerage with a similar name.

InsuranceHero.ca is licensed through the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of fraud involving Hero Life Insurance is encouraged to contact their local police department.
