Norfolk County Paramedics Services has teamed up with Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) to send medical supplies to Ukraine.

Medical kits with supplies that are close to their use date will be sent to a non-profit, humanitarian organization called the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations-Canada (UOSSM Canada) and then distributed to the people in Ukraine.

The kits will include medical items such as needles, syringes, IV tubing, oxygen tubing, personal protective equipment (PPE) and surgical items.

“In situations like these it’s important to band together and provide support where we can,” said Chief of Paramedic Services Sarah Page in a news release. “Norfolk County was happy for the opportunity to work with NGH to provide medical supplies, particularly PPE, to UOSSM Canada.”

Last week, the World Health Organization issued a statement that thousands of lives are at risk as the supplies of medical oxygen are running low throughout Ukraine as it deals with the impact of Russia’s invasion.

Norfolk General Hospital Interim President and CEO Kim Mullins said the hospital stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and it is ready to provide support in their time of need.
