Niagara firefighters say no one was injured after a fire broke out in a home on Brookdale Drive in Niagara Falls Thursday morning.

The City of Niagara Falls Fire Department said a fire broke out in the kitchen of a home at 4059 Brookdale Dr., just before 11 a.m.

Fire crews were called to the blaze as it worked its way into the attic space.

Niagara Falls Deputy Fire Chief Scott Lawson said three people were home at the time of the fire, but they safely escaped the structure after hearing a smoke alarm go off.

He says the fire does not look suspicious and believe it was unattended cooking that caused the fire.

“Cooking is the second leading cause of residential fires,” Lawson said in a statement. “Stay in the kitchen when cooking.”

Lawson says there were 23 firefighters on location, and none of them were injured.
