Niagara police seize loaded Glock, drugs after search of St. Catharines home

Niagara police charged a 36-year-old man of St. Catharines Thursday following a local investigation into the trafficking of controlled substances.

Officers say they began an investigation earlier this month which led to a search warrant being executed at a home in the area of Welland Avenue and Geneva Street in St. Catharines.

Detectives working with the marine unit, the emergency task unit and K9-team to execute the search.

Jeremy Butterworth was arrested and charged with offences including possessing a loaded firearm, possessing schedule 1 substances for the purposes of trafficking and for possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police say following the search, they seized:

  • A loaded Glock 45 firearm;
  • Firearm ammunition;
  • 352.5 g of suspected fentanyl with an estimated value of $35,250;
  • 250 tablets of suspected Dilaudid with an estimated value of $5,000;
  • 73.4 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of $6,600;
  • $7,742 in Canadian currency and $91 in American currency.

Butterworth remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Thursday.
