Niagara police seize loaded Glock, drugs after search of St. Catharines home

Niagara police charged a 36-year-old St. Catharines man Thursday following a local investigation into the trafficking of controlled substances.

Officers say they began an investigation earlier this month which led to a search warrant being executed at a home in the area of Welland Avenue and Geneva Street in St. Catharines.

Detectives worked with the marine unit, the emergency task unit and K9 team to execute the search.

Police say following the search, they seized:

  • A loaded Glock 45 firearm;
  • Firearm ammunition;
  • 352.5 g of suspected fentanyl with an estimated value of $35,250;
  • 250 tablets of suspected Dilaudid with an estimated value of $5,000;
  • 73.4 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of $6,600; and
  • $7,742 in Canadian currency and $91 in American currency.

Jeremy Butterworth was arrested and charged with offences including possessing a loaded firearm, possessing schedule 1 substances for the purposes of trafficking and for possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Butterworth remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Thursday.
