Nine charged in largest human trafficking investigation in Halton police history

VIDEO: Halton police will speak about ‘Project Troubadour,’ the largest human trafficking investigation in its history, from police headquarters in Oakville. The ten-month-long probe spanned several jurisdictions, and resulted in multiple arrests and over 80 criminal charges.

Halton police worked with Hamilton, Niagara and Peel police, the OPP and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario in the investigation.

Twelve victims were uncovered in the investigation and nine people were arrested. Four of the individuals arrested are women.

Police say that the victims were “being trafficked across the country,” including in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and other provinces.

The names of the victims are being withheld from police for their safety.

“The victims have suffered a great deal,” a police spokesman said.

Halton police say that they “believe there are additional victims.”
