Nigel Wright testifies at Duffy trial

Stephen Harper’s former Chief of Staff Nigel Wright is testifying today at the criminal trial of disgraced senator Mike Duffy.

Wright is facing questions about why he gave Duffy $90,000 to repay disallowed housing and travel claims.

He said in court today that he did not tell the Prime Minister of a plan that would have seen the Conservative party fund foot the bill for Duffy’s expense filings.

Wright says he told the Harper that Duffy would repay the expenses, but never mentioned that the plan at the time was for the party to foot the bill on his behalf.

He says the email that said they were “good to go from the PM” was in reference to Duffy’s so-called media lines, and what he would say publicly about the controversy and his efforts to repay.
