Premier Dalton McGuinty responded to layoffs at a St Catharines video game company that’s received millions in government money.

Silicon Knights has laid off more than half of its staff. The company’s CEO says 45 employees were let go because of an unexpected gap in projects.

Silicon Knights received a $4 million federal job creation loan a year and a half ago, and the company was going to get an additional $2.5 million from the Ontario government. That’s in addition to a million dollars previously provided.

McGuinty says he knows about the job losses and is willing to sit down and work things out.

The Ontario grant money was to be used to create dozens of new jobs and protect existing positions.
