New strains of COVID-19 growing quickly

A new study of COVID-19 tests in Ontario shows that new strains of the virus are growing quickly and could become the norm in a matter of weeks.
Public Health Ontario released a study yesterday that examined all cases from a single day in January, and found variants in 5.5 per cent of cases screened.
The majority of them were linked to an outbreak in a long-term care home.
But Dr. Vanessa Allen, the agency’s top microbiologist, says cases are expected to double roughly every one to two weeks.
