Neighbours of a 71-year-old Hamilton man arrested for child abduction are relieved to hear he’s in police custody.

Jen lives in a building next to Giovanni Corda who was arrested Tuesday after police say he lured a 5-year-old girl to his apartment at the corner King street east and Wentworth street north.

“I saw the two barbie dolls and the card that he gave her and it said, call me anytime. I don’t think she’s as terrified as she should have been, because she’s five years old.”

The incident happened on May 24th but this isn’t the first time he’s accused of inviting a young girl up. Three weeks earlier, police say he unsuccessfully tried to entice a 12-year-old to his apartment with singing lessons and a photo shoot.

Neighbours say Corda moved into his apartment less than a year ago, which sits just steps away from a high school. Records dating back to 2010 show Corda has a lengthy criminal record, including breaching probation, a break and enter and an assault.

Neither of the girls were harmed by Corda but a judge denied him bail and he remains in police custody.
