The Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) announces Friday that their Director of Education Camillo Cipriano is resigning after six years with the board.

Cipriano’s final day at NCDSB will be June 5.

Chair of the Board Danny Di Lorenzo says Cipriano told the Board of Trustees at a special board meeting on Thursday evening that he has accepted a position with another publicly funded school board in Ontario.

The Toronto District School Board also announces on Friday that Camillo Cipriano has been appointed as their board’s new chief executive officer.

“While we are sad to lose a leader with such strong, faith-based management skills who has been committed to creating a culture focused on student success and staff development, it is not surprising that his immense talent would be recognized across the province,” Di Lorenzo says.

“We are proud of what has been accomplished under Mr. Cipriano’s leadership, most notably our improved math and literacy results and our growth by nearly 5,000 students. As one of Ontario’s top-performing school boards, we will continue to build upon these successes in the future,” he says.

Cipriano became Niagara Catholic’s third director of education on September 1, 2020 and created a new senior leadership team that led the board through the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support a seamless transition, the Board of Trustees has named Giancarlo Vetrone, Associate Director of Education-Corporate Service as the Interim Director of Education of NCDSB, effective after Cipriano’s last day.
