(Video updated) The fight for the Ikea monkey resumes in court today in Oshawa.

Toronto Animal Services took Darwin the monkey when he was found wandering around an Ikea parking lot in December wearing a shearling coat. The monkey escaped from the car of his owner, Yasmin Nakhuda.

He was sent to a primate sanctuary in Sunderland, Ontario and Nakhuda has been fighting to get him ever since. She has already gone before the court twice, trying to get Darwin back on an interim basis. The full trial starts today, and Nakhuda’s lawyer Ted Charney is looking forward to it.

“We’re looking forward to Yasmin having an opportunity to testify today, and we’re looking forward to an opportunity to examine the animal control services officers who were associated with the event. We’ll just have to see how it goes today, folks.”
