Milton’s Gordon Krantz running for town mayor for 22nd term

Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz has been the mayor of the town since 1980, and hopes to extend his tenure for another term.

That makes him the longest serving mayor in Canada and on Wednesday he made it official that he will run for the mayor’s job once again for the 15th time.

Krantz believes his job isn’t done.

“I’ve gone on record saying the job was never complete,” said Krantz. “Running a municipality will be around long after you or I are gone, so it’s a continuous work and progress, but you always have to attempt to stay on top of all the challenges.”

He turns 89-years-old on April 20 and has held an office in local government since 1965.

This will be the 22nd election that Krantz will take part in, though there were a few elections where he won the position uncontested.

He believes he has got another “good four years” to get the job done.

Nominations for candidates for the town’s 2026 Municipal election will open May 1, until Aug. 21 at 2 p.m., with the election day on Oct. 26.

Advance voting will take place between Oct. 12, to Oct. 15.
