Healthcare providers can now prescribe nature access in Hamilton

A visit to the Hamilton Conservation Authority could be just what the doctor ordered.

The agency partnered with PaRx, a nature prescription program started by BC Parks Foundation.

Through PaRx, doctors prescribe time in nature to improve physical and mental health.

Research shows even two hours outdoors a week supports better health outcomes.

After filling out an online form, patients with a PaRx prescription can now access a free 30-day membership pass to Hamilton Conservation Authority areas.

It includes access to Dundas Valley, Christie Lake, Fifty Point and Valens Lake.

After receiving a PaRx prescription from a participating physician, residents then need to complete an online application form.

While the HCA Membership is free, a $10 administrative fee will still apply.

Passes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
