Hamilton police have arrested a man following an alleged fight between neighbours Friday morning, which led to the seizure of a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

Police say at around 7:15 a.m., two neighbours were reported fighting and causing damage to property at a home on Cannon Street East near Ottawa Street North.

Investigators say when they arrived, both individuals left the area, but received word that one of them had allegedly been in possession of a firearm.

Detectives located a man matching a provided description, and when trying to engage with them, they say the man was uncooperative.

After a brief struggle the man was arrested and taken into custody for uttering threats to cause death and for mischief — damage to property.

Police say after the arrest, a search of the man’s belongings had led to the discovery of a loaded, sawed-off shotgun allegedly hidden in a bag.

The man was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm.

Officers have not revealed any details regarding the man who was arrested.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-546-2963.
