McGuinty makes appeal to teachers
Premier Dalton McGuinty has released a YouTube video, asking Ontario’s teachers to “do their part” to help control costs.
In it, McGuinty thanks teachers for their work, before asking them to accept a two-year wage freeze, and to end a retirement pay-out for sick leave for teachers who still have that benefit.
He says the province is committed to moving forward with full-day kindergarten and will keep class sizes small. But to make that happen, he says salaries need to come down.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario walked out of contract talks on Wednesday.
