Maple Leafs win first playoff series in 19 years

A dream came true this weekend for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans. After almost two decades of trying without success, the Leafs finally reached the second round of the NHL playoffs. It took a sudden death goal in overtime last night but it was enough to make Leafs fans ecstatic.

Fans exploded with cheers outside the Air Canada Centre, overjoyed with Toronto’s win, partying in the streets. The fans have been waiting for this for 19 years.

John Tavares scored in overtime to give the Leafs the victory, to win their series against Tampa Bay and reach the second round of the playoffs.

The last time the Leafs got this far in the playoffs was in 2004.

The Leafs also hold the record for the NHL team that’s gone the longest without winning the Stanley Cup, 55 years, since 1967.
