Picketers demonstrate at Rainbow Bridge as PSAC strike continues

Striking members of Canada’s biggest federal public service union are demonstrating at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls on Friday in an effort to increase the impact of their strike.

Picketers say they are blocking cars from coming into Canada for five minutes at a time.

This comes as roughly 159,000 federal public servants with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) walked off the job April 19.

Along with protections around remote work, the union is asking for higher wages and more inclusive anti-racism and harassment training.

The national president of PSAC Chris Aylward said civil servants need to further affect the economy in order to get a deal on the table.

The union said it will continue to strike and withhold work until a deal can be reached, continuing one of the largest work stoppages in Canadian history.
