Halton police have arrested and charged a man in relation to an alleged 10-month-long sex trafficking case in the Burlington and Greater Toronto areas.

The investigation began in early January into a report of an adult female who was allegedly being trafficked by the suspect.

Members of the Halton police’s Human Trafficking Unit took over the investigation and found that the woman had been physically and sexually assaulted, coerced, controlled and exploited so the suspect could make a profit from her.

Michael Mazza, 40, of no fixed address was arrested and charged with a number of offences, including sexual assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and benefitting from trafficking people and sex services, among other charges.

Investigators believe there may be other victims of human trafficking linked to Mazza.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Detective Scott Heyerman of the HRPS Human Trafficking Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 4973 or via Halton Crime Stoppers.

Mazza was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
