Maleficent

Maleficent is a fantasy film directed by Academy Award winning production designer Robert Stromberg. As the name implies, the film tells the story of Maleficent, the evil villain from Disney’s classic animated feature Sleeping Beauty. Angelina Jolie stars as the Mistress of All Evil who places a curse on the King’s newborn daughter, Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). Not only does the film re-tell the events of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s point-of-view, but it also reveals the sorceress’ past and the events that shaped her into the cruel villain that she is.

Jolie has been attached to this project for years, probably because of her long-time interest in the character. “I loved Maleficent when I was a little girl,” says Jolie. “She was my favourite Disney character. I was afraid of her and I loved her. I was really moved by the script from first reading. It was like uncovering a great mystery. We all know Maleficent and what happened at the christening because we’ve all grown up with that. But what we’ve never known is, what happened before?”

Maleficent is rated PG.
