Lower liquor prices for Ontario

Bars and restaurants are now able to sell spirits for less with takeout and delivery orders in Ontario. It’s a new step the provincial government is taking in order to save the hospitality industry by attracting more customers.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) made the announcement yesterday. Even though bars and restaurants are selling liquor bottles through take out and delivery services, those prices still need to meet the minimum requirements of the AGCO. The government of Ontario have lowered prices temporarily until January 2021.

New Minimum Price at a Liquor Licensed Establishment for takeout and delivery – until December 31, 2020

  • $17.32 for 375 mL/12 ounces of liquor
  • $34.65 for 750 mL/26 ounces of liquor

These prices don’t differ much from LCBO prices but the government is hoping that this can help the hospitality sector that’s been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The province has also made temporary policy changes to make it easier for cideries to sell directly to consumers. The AGCO has removed the requirement for cideries to have five acres of fruit in order to have a retail store. Authorized manufacturers with a retail store can also sell their products online now.

Interested cideries can apply for retail store authorization through the AGCO’s online portal.
