People who have eaten at Lulu’s Shawarma say the food is great but the couple behind the counter are even better.

Rizgar Rada and his wife Tammy have worked together for years serving their loyal customers.

But when Tammy got sick it was up to her husband to shoulder the load and keep the shawarma flowing. But on Friday he had some extra special help from a local “fan.”

“Tammy unfortunately had a stroke and now Riz is back here by himself and I just thought it would be a great opportunity to come and help out my boy,” says Simoni Lawrence, the former Hamilton Tiger-Cats Linebacker. “It’s a blessing. It’s great to give back to the people who give to you.”

“She’s getting better now,” says Rada. “I love you Tammy, no matter what. Whether you stay home or come to work, I still love you forever.”

Rizgar says working alone has been hard but his community has been great. He also mentioned that Simoni was easy to train – calling him a smart learner.
