19-year-old arrested for having handgun at east Hamilton restaurant

Hamilton police have arrested a 19-year-old man after he was seen with a handgun at a fast-food restaurant Thursday night.

Officers say they were called to a fast-food restaurant on Centennial Parkway North at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday after members of the public reported seeing people with firearms.

Detectives attended the restaurant and found two individuals who matched the descriptions provided by callers.

The two individuals were then detained by police and searched for weapons.

Investigators located a loaded handgun in one man’s waistband; a Glock-style handgun containing 20 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

As a result, police arrested 19-year-old Jesse Murie and charged him with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm;
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • Carrying a concealed weapon and;
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking.

Authorities say at the time of his arrest, Murie was bound by a court-ordered undertaking which prohibited him from having firearms, ammunition or related devices.

The gun, magazine and ammunition were all seized by investigators and Murie was denied bail.

Officers arrested a second individual but they were later released unconditionally.
