Drivers should expect delays as lane restrictions begin Monday on a long stretch of Main Street in Hamilton for the next six months.
The City of Hamilton says the lane closures will be in effect on Main Street from Dundurn St. South to Victoria Ave. South until late September for watermain repairs.
The city says crews will rehabilitate the inside of the underground watermain in the area to extend its lifespan and prevent leaks.
During the time of the construction, a temporary above-ground watermain will be installed to maintain water service to local neighbourhoods.
The city says this work is being done in advance of the two-way conversion of Main Street and road resurfacing project.
Officials say access to businesses and homes will be maintained, and emergency services will not be affected.
Staff are asking residents to keep clear of fire hydrants in the area so that emergency crews can access them.
