Loblaw’s recalls pre-packaged shrimp due to bacteria risk

Loblaw’s Companies Ltd. is recalling certain pre-packaged cooked shrimp due to a risk of potentially harmful bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the Pacific White cooked shrimp packages may contain bacteria due to the potential presence of raw shrimp.

The affected product was sold in 300-gram packages containing 56-65 shrimp per pound.

The shrimp was sold across the country at Loblaw banner stores including Fortinos, Independent, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Valu-Mart, Wholesale Club, Zehrs and affiliated independent stores.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with eating the product.

The agency is advising consumers to throw the product out or return it to the store where it was purchased.
