LCBO bonus

It turns out we were spared the province’s first ever strike by LCBO workers thanks to a signing bonus paid to union members.
Just before the May long weekend, people were stocking up on beer and booze in case employees went out on strike. A deal was reached just before the strike deadline and while it didn’t include any raises over the next two years it did include an $800 signing bonus for each worker. Employees also get 2% raises in the third and fourth year of the deal. The Finance Minister says the bonus amount was included in how much the province was willing to spend on the agency. But the opposition at Queen’s Park says if you’re paying money that people weren’t getting before, then it’s a raise.
