The famous Avro Lancaster bomber made an emergency landing in Hamilton this afternoon.

A viewer took this photo at Hamilton International Airport, which appears to show damage to the Lancaster’s wing.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum confirms that during the first flight of the season the right wing tip was “compromised.” They say the crew declared an emergency and immediately returned to the airport.

The Lancaster landed safely and there was no further damage.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been advised and the museum says it is conducting an “internal investigation.” They expect it will take several weeks to determine what happened and until then, they say they will have no further comment.
