Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was campaigning in Hamilton today and for the second time in a little over 2 weeks, he was joined by a former Liberal Prime Minister.

Jean Chretien joined Justin Trudeau at a rally this afternoon in Hamilton. It was the Liberals largest rally yet as more than  15 000 people came out.

They packed the ballroom at the Sheridan hotel to hear from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau who has enlisted the help of former Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

“I think Canadians are ready to have a new Prime Minister.”

It’s Trudeau’s first time in Hamilton during his campaign, and Chretien’s first public appearance during the election. The Liberals once held every seat here, but now they have none.

More than a dozen Liberal candidates from ridings in Hamilton, Halton and Niagara were present, including the Hamilton East-Stoney Creek candidate and former Hamilton mayor Bob Bratina.

“Do we need to grow the economy? Do we need to enhance business? Yes.   Do you think all those business on Burlington Street and Barton and the QEW would have confidence in a new democratic government? The answer is no.”

“Hamiltonians are dismayed to see that Mr. Mulcair is unwilling to invest in the kind of growth that Canadians need to create great jobs and real opportunities.” said Trudeau.

In 1968 at the height of Trudeaumania more than 16 000 people packed Civic Stadium in Hamilton to hear Pierre Trudeau speak.

“We had most of the seats if not all of them. The good old days will come back, don’t you agree you guys?”

Today’s rally showed that the Liberals can draw big crowds with big names, but the bigger challenge will be getting big numbers of their supporters to the polls in just over 5 weeks from now.
