A new immersive, indoor ride in Niagara Falls launching Friday will take visitors on a 56-kilometre journey, celebrating the area’s geography, history and people — with the help of drone technology and a 180-degree domed screen.

Located inside Niagara Parks’ flagship site Table Rock Centre near the Horseshoe Falls, ‘Niagara Takes Flight’ is a $25 million theatre attraction that soars high above the tourist town and back in time to the ice age and the creation of Indigenous Turtle Island.

The ride is the first of its kind in Ontario and second in Canada after Vancouver.

Filmed over the span of six months using custom-built drones, the adventure has guests suspended in gondola-style seating and simulates flight through motion programming, with sensory effects like wind, mist and even scent — and a 17-metre-wide dome screen that stretches below their dangling feet.

Disney’s Rick Rothschild, a principal creator of the world’s first flying theatre attraction ‘Soarin’ Over California’ served as creative director and Brogent Technologies oversaw the ride construction and overall attraction development.

Niagara Takes Flight will be open daily from 9am to 10pm. Admission is $29 for adults and $19 for children with pre-sale tickets available.

A seat on the ride is included in Niagara Parks’ bundled pass products, the Adventure Pass, Niagara Falls Pass and Niagara Falls Pass Plus.
