Niagara police say the human remains they found in Niagara-on-the-Lake in August belong to a Toronto man who has been missing for more than three years.
The service’s homicide unit has confirmed the remains belong to a 24-year-old man who was last seen in May 2022.
Detectives say they are not releasing the man’s identity at the request of his family.
The investigation has now become a joint effort between the Niagara and Toronto police services.
Officers learned remains had been discovered near Read Road along the shore of Lake Ontario at around 2 p.m. on Aug. 31.
