Niagara police say the discovery of human remains in Niagara-on-the-Lake last month is now a homicide investigation.

A human skull was found on Aug. 31 in the Read Road area near Lake Ontario. The remaining skeletal remains were located on Sept. 3.

Investigators now believe the death occurred between late 2021 and the spring of 2025.

The victim is described as a Black man around 18 to 22 years old and between five-foot-10 and and six-foot-three tall with a muscular build.

Police say the current description does not match any known or outstanding missing persons within the Niagara region.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009417 or contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara at 1-800-222-8477 should they wish to remain anonymous.
