Honda halts production in Ontario due to border delays caused by trucker blockade

Honda is the latest automaker in Ontario to scale back production as trucker blockades at U.S. border crossings worsen an industry-wide parts shortage.
Honda issued a statement late Thursday saying it was temporarily suspending manufacturing on a day-shift production line at its plant in Alliston, Ont. on Friday.
The automaker cited border delays as the cause for the shutdown. It says operations in the United States will continue to run as scheduled.
“As this remains a fluid situation, we are monitoring the disruption of transportation between Canada and the U.S. and will adjust production as necessary,” reads the statement.
The blockade at the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor to Detroit is now on its fifth day. The border crossing is considered the busiest commercial land border crossing in North America.
It’s disrupting the flow of auto parts and other products across the border and has already forced Ford’s Oakville plant, Stellantis in Windsor and Toyota’s plants in Cambridge and Woodstock to cut back production and the hours of thousands of workers.
The protest is one of several demonstrations happening in the country over COVID-19 mandates and restrictions.
