Animation house Laika has been quietly building up a successful string of stop motion features since 2009’s Coraline. But while their critical ratings have been steadily positive (Kubo holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes), the box office returns have been in decline. Which is a shame because the films are beautiful to look at and tell wonderful stories. It will hopefully find an audience on home video where the main feature is supplemented with an audio commentary from director Travis Knight and a six-part featurette about the film’s production.

If it’s mind-numbing action you’re after this week, Jason Statham delivers in this follow-up to his 2011 film. While it didn’t do well at the domestic box office, the film made almost $90M overseas helping it improve on the original’s $76M worldwide take. Only time will tell if we see a Mechanic 3 down the road. You’ll find a few short featurettes on the Blu-ray release, but not much else.
