Hamilton’s Garner Road will be closed to passing vehicles between Southcote Road and Glancaster Road beginning Monday and is expected to reopen on Sept. 4 as the city completes critical sewer repairs.
A full road closure will be in place between Springbrook Avenue and 850 Garner Road East, with local access maintained throughout the remainder of the closure area.
Although the closure will cause short-term disruptions, the City of Hamilton says this work is vital to ensure the sewer system safely and reliably serves both current residents and future development.
Toward the completion of the project in 2025, a section of sewer was found to require additional repair after unstable ground caused the sewer pipe to sink.

The city now has to close and dig up the road to fix a sunken sewer pipe after previous repair attempts did not work.
The dig will be about nine metres deep, making it unsafe to maintain traffic through the work zone.
Before Garner Road can reopen, crews will complete final road restoration once the sewer repair is complete.
Businesses in the area will remain open throughout construction and Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) service will detour during the closure.
