Hamilton’s Gage Park Fountain will be closed from June to August to facilitate a planned lifecycle repair.
The city says temporary fencing will be set up around the work zone for safety, which may block access to nearby paths.
The fountain was last restored 12 years ago and its waterproof coating has worn out from weather and constant water exposure.
The city says this kind of wear and tear is normal for fountains and that replacing the waterproof coating now will prevent worse damage later.
Crews will repair the concrete and apply a new, more durable waterproof coating, which will make the colour of the water appear grey instead of the current blue.
The city of Hamilton says this change is due to the use of an improved material, designed for longer-term performance under constant exposure to water and UV light.
Other areas of Gage Park will remain open to the public during construction.
