Hamilton’s Club 33, director to pay fines for serving alcohol with revoked license

Hamilton’s Club 33 Inc. and its director have been ordered to pay fines after the business was closed down in September by an injunction order.

The nightclub on 33 Bowen St., had its liquor license suspended by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario in August.

The Crown agency made the decision after a shooting in an adjacent parking lot Aug. 25, left three people in their 20s injured.

The city then issued an urgent injunction order against the nightclub Sept. 5, after the business served alcohol the day after their liquor license was revoked.

The club remained closed indefinitely while the city wanted to extend the injunction.

City officials say a hearing at a provincial court March 31, found Club 33 and the club’s director Joseph Mazza guilty of the city’s charges.

Club 33 is expected to pay a fine of $10,000 and Mazza to pay $5,000.

The city says the club remains closed and is not permitted to operate.

It also confirms that the City has not received notice of any new applications for any other businesses at 33 Bowen St.
