Hamilton torture convict released
A 25-year old woman who was convicted for torturing and holding a mentally challenged man captive in Hamilton for 17 days has been released from jail.
Dakota Thompson was one of three people convicted in the 2009 assault that shocked people including the legal community and led to the presiding judge to impose harsher than usual sentences. However, those sentences were reduced earlier this month by the Ontario Court of Appeal. The parole board granted Thompson a statutory release on April 9th, and she’s been ordered to live in a community residential facility because she is likely to commit an offence if she’s not monitored. She was initially sentenced to 10 years after pleading guilty in 2010.
