Hamilton teen charged with stunt driving, speeding

A Hamilton teenager is facing charges after police caught a driver going nearly 90 km/h on a city street.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, officers spotted two vehicles travelling southbound on Upper Gage Ave. near Stone Church Rd.
Police say a black Jetta quickly pulled out from behind the other vehicle and sped down the roadway. They say the vehicle was clocked going 136 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with stunt driving and speeding. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in August.
The driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle, which was a rental under another driver’s name, has been impounded seven days.
Penalties for stunt driving could include a fine between $2,000 and $10,000, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension.
