Hamilton teen charged after pride flag ripped down, stomped on and stolen

A Hamilton teenager has been charged after a pride flag was stolen from a home in Waterdown.

Video surveillance captured someone walking up the driveway of the home shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.

Police say the suspect removed a 2S&LGBTQIA+ pride flag that was hanging above the garage and proceeded to throw it to the ground and stomp on it. The youth eventually left the area with the flag in their possession.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.

Hamilton police say the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
