Hamilton sex offender’s bail bid put over

(Update)
Sex offender Keith Constantin made a brief court appearance today — after he was re-arrested in Hamilton last week for breaching curfew.

35-year old Constantin didn’t say anything during his court appearance which only lasted a couple of minutes. His hearing was put over until next week. In that brief time he seemed calm.

Constantin looked younger than he does in the photograph provided by police. His haircut is much shorter and his beard has been trimmed into a very closely shaved goatee. Constantin was re-arrested on Friday for breaking curfew. Less than two weeks after being released from prison where he was serving a sentence for sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint. He also has convictions for sexually assaulting a boy in a park and a blind woman.

Hamilton police took the unusual step of issuing a public safety notice for the Gage Park area after his July release stating he has the potential to reoffened. After public pressure, he moved to the Fruitland Road area in Stoney Creek where a petition with more than 27-hundred signatures is circulating to have him removed. People in the Fruitland Road area we spoke with were concerned that Constantin will move back in if he is granted bail.

“I don’t know why he would come out here — it’s all residential. And I don’t know of any halfway houses or any other places that would take someone like that in. But of course he’s going to come back to this area we should all know about it.”

“I didn’t think too much of it at first but my son when he’s walking the dog and stuff like that. My dog would help but still it makes me a little bit nervous.”

“Ever since he moved in here, I haven’t walked with my dog as much lately because I always wait until my step dad or my mom can go with me because I don’t want to take a chance.”

Constantin will appear in court next via video August 11th. Until then he’ll remain in custody.
