Hamilton police seek man after random stabbing in Stoney Creek

Hamilton police are on the hunt for a man after what is believed to be a random stabbing in Stoney Creek on Thursday morning that sent a woman to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were called to the area of Centennial Parkway and Queenston Road around 8:15 a.m. following reports of a stabbing.

Investigators say a 45-year-old woman was seated on a bench in the Eastgate Square bus terminal shelter reading a book when she was attacked from behind.

The interaction was brief and the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

Detectives say the victim suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as having a dark complexion and was wearing a black T-shirt and dark-coloured pants. He may also have had a backpack on at the time of the incident.

Police are asking those in the area between the hours of 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. to contact them if they observed anything suspicious.
